Post 4: What I've done so far
So let's continue in English :D If you find any mistakes, just let me know.
Mornings
Well, on my second day I woke up at 9:30am, climbed out of my pot quietly and got to the bathroom. On the way to the kitchen, I met a French girl wearing a t-shirt with a logo of the anime "attack on titan" so I spoke to her :D I made a sandwich with humus, avocado and egg for lunch (I usually skip breakfast), put it into my small backpack and went out to visit Mount Eden.
Outside of the hostel, there was standing a asian-looking girl and she spoke to me spontaneously. We got on well quickly (maybe we're both Asian...?) and went to Mount Eden together.
She has been looking for a job so I offered her to ask my employer, if he can take her too (he will let us know tomorrow). By the way, I ate my sandwich for dinner because we went to a kind of hot-pot restaurant together (where I ordert a not-hot-pot 😂). The soup wasn't spicy but I took to much chilli so that I still had to struggle with tears 🥲🤧
Afternoon
We walked through the city to get a microfibre sports towel for Seona (that's the name of my new korean friend btw, she's 29 looking like 20 though, her comment: "we're asian, ages are just numbers" 😂). We also went to get a SIM card for me from Spark, which Seona recommended to me. 49NZD (=25€) for 10GB for three months is one of the best offers in NZ. After shopping we each took a break in our rooms. I actually didn't want to sleep to manage jetlag but in the end I slept for 1h 🥲. Never mind, I used my welcome drink card to get a cup of mocha coffee ☕
There we searched for work for Seona and discussed what to do tomorrow (Sunday 04.10). We are thinking about buying a car together. So we're going to visit a car selling market tomorrow, which takes place every Sunday at a certain parking area near here. We still don't know whether we will actually buy a car tomorrow, because it might be a bit risky to buy one without being sure that we work in the same place. It would be so cool if we could work together in Opotiki, go there by car and travel at the weekends :)
After that we went to a Asian supermarket to buy some food. It seems to be a bit cheaper than in Germany.
Worries
Guess what, I'm worried about whether the Starter-Package is worth it, because I've already found my first job and accomodation. I even realised that it's much easier to have all these documents done as I thought (bank account, SIM, Tax ID, Visa). Also the transit from the airport to the hostel has been quite simple.
Price: 589€ (It sounds a lot but before knowing nothing about the situation it sounds promising)
I think the biggest benefits of this program are
- the Emergency number
- the opportunity to have a one-to-one consultation and ask questions whenever you want during your stay in NZ
- the opportunity to make contacts with other backpacker (even WhatsApp groups)
- Travel tips and insider knowledge
After the program, I'll let you know how far I was right.
Thank you for reading :) I'm looking forward to reading your comments!
Amazing! You have already found a friend!
